MADISON, Wis. — May 20, 2022 — 100 Men of Dane County has awarded The River Food Pantry a $97,000 grant to support the expansion of their mobile meals program, Munch, which serves local children facing food insecurity.
“We are extremely honored and grateful to 100 Men of Dane County for selecting The River as their quarter two grant finalist,” said Rhonda Adams, Executive Director of The River. “Their generous support of Munch will help feed thousands of children coping with hunger throughout Madison.”
For the past six years, Munch has delivered free healthy meals to children in low-income neighborhoods on Madison’s north and east sides. The River will use grant funding to expand Munch to underserved neighborhoods on Madison’s south side.
Many of the children served by Munch rely on school lunches as their key meal source. Munch bridges the gap when school lunch is not available by operating up to 6 days per week. Each meal includes fresh produce and other nutritionally balanced options for children to choose from.
In 2021, Munch distributed over 33,000 meals to 10 low-income neighborhoods. The River’s goal is to deliver at least 45,000 meals in 2022.
