Donor Spotlight: Helen Drobniak | The River Food Pantry

Helen Drobniak has been a dedicated supporter of The River Food Pantry, trying to give when she can for nearly a decade. Her gifts have fed countless families, children and seniors facing food insecurity in our community. Helen has also chosen to name The River in her will so she can continue to help feed local families into the future.

“It’s never too early to have a will,” said Helen. “I included The River in mine because it’s one of my favorite places to volunteer and it’s a very good cause. The process wasn’t hard at all.”

Since she retired 8 years ago, Helen has volunteered about once a week at The River. For most of that time, she helped sort and distribute fresh produce to clients, many of whom referred to her as “the salad girl.”

“It’s very fulfilling to put a smile on someone’s face. The River has changed a lot over the years, but I still enjoy giving and helping out,” Helen said.

When COVID-19 began, many volunteers like Helen took a break from volunteering for safety precautions. She says she missed the clients and is happy to be back.

“When I volunteered outside with FAM, it felt really nice to chat with clients again,” she said.
