Steve Sachtjen Receives First Czerkas Distinguished Service Award | The River Food Pantry

Steve Sachtjen receives The River’s first Czerkas Distinguished award from Board Chair Jennifer Zisser.

MADISON, Wis. — October 26, 2018 — The River Food Pantry presented the first Czerkas Distinguished Award to Steve Sachtjen, former board member, during the organization’s 2018 Harvest Dinner for Hunger at Madison College on Oct. 21.

The River created the new award to honor the legacy of the founders, Jenny and Andy Czerkas. Each year, the award recipient will exemplify the selflessness and unwavering commitment to The River’s mission of providing food, resources and faith to build a stronger community.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers and the thousands of individuals whose lives have improved because of his commitment to The River, I am honored to present the first Czerkas Distinguished Service Award to Steve Sachtjen,” said Jennifer Zisser, Board Chair of The River.

The artisan bowl award that Sachtjen received represented his efforts to carry The River toward success and to serve The River’s community over the past several years.

“Steve has served tirelessly on the board of directors, always pushing us beyond today and being the best cheerleader of our collective efforts,” Zisser said. “It is a great honor to publicly recognize and thank an individual who has inspired and encourage me beyond what I thought was possible.”
