The River Food Pantry Voted Best Charitable Organization Amid Historic Demand for Food | The River Food Pantry

Out of over 3,000 nonprofits in the area, The River Food Pantry has been voted Best Charitable Organization through the Madison.com People’s Choice Awards for the fourth year in a row.

“We get to touch thousands of lives every single week, and this award is incredibly touching to us. It’s a powerful reminder of the difference we make and the generous support we receive from our community,” said Rhonda Adams, Executive Director of The River. “We are very honored and grateful for everyone’s votes!”

Since opening in 2006, The River has become South Central Wisconsin’s busiest food pantry. Today, more people are using the pantry’s services than ever before. In 2023, 17,079 people relied on The River for food. This was by far the most ever served in a year, and demand is up 18% in 2024.

Amid this historic demand for food, The River provides the following free services:

  • Curbside groceries
  • Freshly prepared meals
  • Delivery to the homebound
  • Online grocery orders
  • Mobile meals for low-income neighborhoods
  • Redistribution community partnerships
  • Food recovery
