On May 5, help The River celebrate #GivingTuesdayNow & Cinco de Mayo!
You’re invited to join The River on Tuesday, May 5 as we celebrate:
- #GivingTuesdayNow*: a new global day of giving and unity that serves as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19.
- Cinco de Mayo: (the fifth of May) a holiday that celebrates the Mexican army’s victory during the Franco-Mexican War. In the U.S., Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a commemoration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with large Mexican-American populations.
Thanks to the community’s recent support, The River has been able to provide emergency food and supplies to thousands of local families impacted by COVID-19. Many of those families represent diverse cultural and ethnic groups, including those of Mexican descent.
This Tuesday, you can help us celebrate generosity and Mexican heritage by supporting our #GivingTuesdayNow campaign. An anonymous donor has generously offered to match donations up to $5,500, so you can double your impact!
With your support, The River will partner with Enrique’s Market—a Mexican taquería, butcher shop, and grocery store on Madison’s North Side—to provide authentic Mexican taco lunches to hundreds of food-insecure children through our mobile lunch program, MUNCH.
*#GivingTuesdayNow is an additional opportunity to celebrate community and give back in a special time of need. #GivingTuesday, which The River will once again participate in, will take place this year on Dec. 1.
