Vets Connect

Vets Connect

Since 2023, The River Food Pantry has collaborated with St. Paul Lutheran Church to host Vets Connect, a relaxed monthly gathering that builds connections and fellowship between Dane County veterans, their families, and community resources.

Gatherings are held on the final Tuesday of each month, starting with a shared meal at 5pm. Vets Connect seeks to foster a healthy community by hosting nutritious meals in an alcohol- and substance-free environment. Meals are typically followed by a guest speaker presenting on a topic or opportunity relevant to veterans’ interests and needs. Following the evening’s presentation, attendees are welcome to stay for activities or conversation.

Veteran status, or being an invited guest of a veteran, is the only qualification for participation. Participants are encouraged to share needs or interests that may be addressed by the program through future presenters or activities.

In line with The River’s mission of reducing food insecurity, all attendees are encouraged to take food home with them for future meals. Any remaining food from each meeting is donated to Dryhootch, a local nonprofit that serves veterans and their families, to share with other area veterans.
